چکیده

This letter introduces the BRL/Pisa/IIT (BPI) SoftHand: a single actuator-driven, low-cost, 3D-printed, tendon-driven, underactuated robot hand that can be used to perform range of grasping tasks. Based on adaptive synergies Pisa/IIT SoftHand, we design new joint system and tendon routing facilitate inclusion both soft synergies, which helps us balance durability, affordability performance hand. The focus this work is design, simulation, tests SoftHand. novel phalanges are designed printed based linkages, gear pairs geometric restraint mechanisms, applied most tendon-driven robotic hands. We show successfully grasp lift various target objects adapt hold complex shapes, reflecting successful adoption synergies. intend open-source so it built cheaply home 3D-printer.

The UW Hand: A Low-cost, 20-DOF Tendon-driven Hand with Fast and Compliant Actuation

We describe the process of designing and building a 20 degrees-of-freedom tendon-driven anthropomorphic robotic hand. We use 3D printing technology to reduce cost and save time. The entire mechanism is easily assembled thanks to our Snap-On joint design. The fingers are modular and can be individually modified with little effort. The hand is actuated by new pneumatic system consisting of an ass...

An adaptive neural controller for a tendon driven robotic hand

In this paper we present our ongoing work on the control of a tendon driven robotic hand by an adaptive learning mechanism evolved using a simulator developed over the last years. We present the “ligand-receptor” concept that can be easily used by artificial evolution to explore (a) the growing of a neural network, (b) value systems and (c) learning mechanisms systematically for a given task (i...

Torque control of underactuated tendon-driven fingers

Given an underactuated tendon-driven finger, the finger posture is underdetermined and can move freely (“flop”) in a region of slack tendons. This work shows that such an underactuated finger can be operated in tendon force control (rather than position control) with effective performance. The force control eliminates the indeterminate slack while commanding a parameterized space of desired tor...

Adaptive synergies for the design and control of the Pisa/IIT SoftHand

In this paper we introduce the Pisa/IIT SoftHand, a novel robot hand prototype designed with the purpose of being robust and easy to control as an industrial gripper, while exhibiting high grasping versatility and an aspect similar to that of the human hand. In the paper we briefly review the main theoretical tools used to enable such simplification, i.e. the neuroscience–based notion of soft s...

3D hand localization by low-cost webcams

In recent years, depth sensors, such as Kinect provides new opportunities for Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). However, for more universalization of depth sensors in consumer electronics, the cost of the sensors should be considered. In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for 3D hand localization by two commodity low cost webcams. Because of the noise produced by the low cost webcams, the dep...
